Question:
Houseboating down the ohio river to mississippi river to New Orleans?

I have a few questions. I am planning a trip with my family. We will start in Pittsburgh, rent a houseboat to sail down to Mississippi River to finish in New Orleans. Does anyone have a recommendation for where we can get a houseboat starting in Pittsburgh, PA. and a captain? Or alternatively when we get to the Mississippi we could get on a new boat with new captain? Then would need rec's as well.

Thanks

The Mississippi is major waterway for shipping. I doubt, anybody will even rent a houseboat for a journey like that. As somebody wrote, when you get down here the river is filled with ocean going ships. And, while I can't speak for river ports like Memphis, I do know that from Baton Rouge downriver to the mouth of the river, you must have a riverboat pilot's license. I'm sure you could hire a pilot, but they don't come cheap.

I think you will have a major problem finding a one-way rental. How will the boat's owner get it back to Pittsburgh? I doubt you will even find a rental from Pittsburgh to Cincinnati.

I have never seen a house boat in the Mississippi. Is that really possible!
