According to the New Orleans Conventions and Visitors Bureau, they will have a "soft" opening of the city with the Mardi Gras. So plan to attend.

Yes and it will be smaller, have you considered Mardi Gras in the country? The Cajun Country is known for the preservation and continuance of the Parades and festitives. Communities such as Opelousas, Ville Platt, Eunice are good bets.

One local station where you can always hear good music and the sounds of Lousiana is KBON out of Eunice. It has a video stream.

Short of another Hurricane hitting during carnival, I don't think anything could stop Mardi Gras.

Nothing will stop us freaks in the French Quarter from putting on costumes and dancing in the streets on February 28, 2006. Come dance with us.
