First thing - they're streetcars. Streetcars are powered by electric lines from above, trolleys (or cable cars) are powered by electric lines or by moving cables below ground.



Second - it depends on the line. The cars of the canal street line were flooded, but the electric lines of the st. charles line are heavily damaged. Their solution is to run the green St. Charles streetcars on the Canal street line. It will be around a year from now until the St. Charles line is up and running. For now, the RTA has buses in place of streetcars.
